It is still questionable about the cause of depression, but there are many natural treatments for depression. A good diet can significantly reduce the symptoms of depression, affecting the dopamine levels in the brain. Sweets are able to temporarily increase mood by increasing blood sugar levels, but once the sugar has been absorbed it is no longer in the blood, then moods tend to drop even lower than before hence causing depression periods. Limiting intake of sweets, cake, candy, sweet chocolate, ice cream and other foods lathered with sugar can essentially reduce the severity of low feelings. Major depressive moods can be prevented by keeping blood sugar levels steady.
Caffein and alcohol can also worsen the mood. They provide short term elated sensation, that is quickly followed by depression. People with depression should consume foods that are rich in B vitamins and magnesium, since they are able to trigger serotonin production. Green vegetables, nuts, and some varieties of fish can be advantageous, for they trigger a good mood without being followed of a state of depression.
