If you feel depressed, it’s best to do something about it — depression doesn’t just go away on its own. You must deal with your depression, since it will only linger if you don’t.

In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better.

1.    Be physically active. You can dance, do aerobics, go swimming or even a simple short 15 -30 minutes of daily brisk walking if you like. Depressed people avoid activity, but you should power yourself up and have a close friend to motivate you by joining you.  You will soon feel a shift in your vibes towards energy and optimism.

2.    Eat only nutritious food.  Your appetite will be affected by your depression. It is actually individualistic, one may overeat, one may rather fast. You must take extra effort in consuming better nourishment when you are depressed, since proper nutrition will elevate your mood and energy.  So, even when you don’t feel like it, you should have plenty of fruits and vegetables and eat regularly, just some easy eating like a piece of fruit to energize you.

3.    It is suggested that you should never replay depressive thoughts over and over again in your mind, but it won’t hurt to analyze your troubles lightly.  Only to identify what has caused your depressive state.

Discuss what you think triggered your depressed feelings with your loved ones.  In order to dissolve the negative feelings and to be given love and support, it is good to discuss your feelings. Or you could just write flowing and freely in your diary with the same results.

Then you can focus on some positive activity when your thoughts and feelings have been refreshed. Solve your problems. Seek help. To eliminate depression, allowing yourself to open up to friends and family is a great way.

4.    Unblock your creativity and sense of fun by expressing yourself.  You could paint, do some drawings, write, play musical instruments, etc,  you will loosen up some positive emotions since all those activities will bring out the creativity within you. Go out with friends or play with a pet, or find activity that brings joy to you. To lighten up your mood, you should always be able to laugh about something.

5.    Your thoughts are always focusing on negative emotions. Eliminate those thoughts by shifting your focus on to positive thoughts. Be thankful and grateful for every good things in your life. Make an extra effort to notice one good thing, and then move on to the next good thing. Always count your blessings.

And REMEMBER! You should always be PATIENT with yourself. It takes time to heal depression.
