Anxiety Natural

For centuries, millions of people have suffered with the debilitating effects of depression and other mental anxieties. Both can affect a person’s important relationships, such as their family, friends, career, etc. For these reasons (and many others not mentioned), those affected have sought relief. Many have found it in the ancient herb St. John’s Wort.

The ancient Greeks recorded the use of St. John’s Wort over 2,000 years ago and gave the herb its name from an early Christian feast of St. John the Baptist. This feast takes place near the time when the plant blooms, in late June.

Over the years, this star-shaped herb has been primarily used with great success in the treatment of mild-to-moderate depression as well as mild anxiety.

Despite its common use as an anti-depressant for many centuries, it’s only been during the last 20 years that most of the herb’s mood-altering qualities have been identified and researched.

A reddish-purple extract called Hypericin in the plant’s leaves and blooms is the active ingredient which gives the effects, calming symptoms of depression, mild anxiety and some sleep disorders.

A recent study for example, found the herb produced positive results 250% greater than a placebo among over 100 persons diagnosed with depression. In another study consisting of over 3,200 people, 80% saw improvement in their depression symptoms over a four-week period. Results such as these are encouraging to the functionality and success rate of the herb.

In August of 1996, the British Medical Journal published an article analyzing 25 different studies showing how the normal side side effects of anti-depressent drugs (like headache and vomiting) could be avoided by using St John’s Wort instead.

Although specific studies have yet to be conducted to verify St Johns Wort side effects, it continues to have success not only as an anti-depressant, but also as a remedy for nervousness, fatigue, arthritis, leg sciatica, and congestion.

So if you are suffering from any of the above ailments, it is important you get your herbs from a place that keep them fresh in order for you to enjoy their health boosting properties.
