About Rinda Ismar

Welcome to my site

My Master's Graduation Ceremony

Hello there. My name is Rinda Ismar. I am from Indonesia, the country of more than ten thousand beautiful exotic islands.

I am a medical doctor with a masters degree in Occupational Medicine. My thesis for my masters degree was Occupational Stress in Call Center Workers. The results of the study which I conducted in a large national telecommunication center in Jakarta was astounding, over 30% of the call center operators experienced work stress, and over 70% of them had tendencies of mental emotional disorders, although I did not investigate the association between the work stress and the tendency of mental emotional disorders. To establish whether the tendency actually was a mental emotional disorder, the workers were advised to consult a psychiatric department.

Since my early years in medical school I was really interested in pursuing a residency in Psychiatry. After graduating medical school, and after a few years of working in health centers, I applied for a psychiatric residency and was rejected. Dissapointed and feeling very low, I encountered a meeting with one of the professors and found out that the reason of my rejection was that I had some psychological challenges of my own that might interfere with my ability to treat and diagnose mental patients.

I was devastated, and in denial. But now I can say with no shame, that I did have some issues (still do), low self esteem, no confidence, frequent anxiety attacks, depression, and the list goes on. It’s amazing how I was able to go through medical school and eventually earn my degree.

I finally joined a large International Health/Life Insurance Company in Jakarta and took on the roll of a Medical Underwriter Supervisor. Since the job required me to analyze occupational potential hazards besides health hazards, I decided to get a masters degree in occupational medicine.

So, with the knowledge that there are plenty of individuals out there in the world, besides myself, with mind health problems, I created this website to learn more about myself, and provide easy reading information about mental health issues.

I have been searching for self help tools to live a more energetic and optimistic and happy life without any medication, with promising results. One day, I might even give Psychiatry residency another try.

I hope that this website may be beneficial to others and I hope for feedback to improve my website.
